Mental Health Ministry Spiritual Support Group Meetings can be offered to support people who are living a mental illness and to the caregivers, often parents, who are supporting a loved on who lives with a mental illness. It is important to realize that these are spiritual support meetings, not clinical support group meetings. Spiritual support groups provide spiritual and social support leading to a renewed sense of meaning and purpose. At a spiritual support group meeting participants are offered accompaniment to Journey with others as they experience God.
For the support group meetings prayer intentions can be placed in a prayer box that is kept in a sacred space, such as a chapel. Once the box is filled with intentions a prayer service can be held where the intentions are burned, as prayers rising to God.
